Exploring the Intelligent Robot Zone at Canton Fair

As the 137th Canton Fair unfolds, the newly established intelligent robot zone has emerged as a focal point, captivating global buyers with cutting-edge innovations. Stepping into this dynamic hub, reporters witnessed a convergence of technology and commerce, where over 40 exhibitors showcased their star robotic products, leaving overseas purchasers in awe. The resounding “Amazing!” echoed through the hall, encapsulating the marvel of modern robotics and the tangible excitement of international trade.

A Flourishing Marketplace: On-Site Orders and Clear Demands

The zone proved to be a hotspot for precise demand matching, with many exhibitors reporting immediate transactions and strong cooperation intentions. Ni Hualiang, Chairman of Shanghai Aoyi Information Technology, expressed enthusiasm about the fair’s efficiency. “This is our first time at the Canton Fair, and the demand matching has been incredibly precise,” he noted, adding that most inquiries came from overseas buyers, many of whom established direct contact on the spot. Aoyi Technology, which derived about 50% of its revenue from overseas markets last year, has expanded to Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, and the UK, and the fair presented an opportunity to explore new territories.

Aoyi’s robotic dexterous hand, ROHand, stood out, captivating onlookers with its real-time motion simulation via arm-mounted sensors, boasting an error margin of less than 0.6 seconds and a 30-kilogram load capacity. Ni revealed plans for the second and third generations of self-developed dexterous hands, with the second generation—featuring tactile and pressure sensing—scheduled for small-batch production in May, and the third generation set for completion by October.

Shenzhen Elephant Robotics also made a splash, with its bionic pet robot cat securing 20 on-site orders and its mechanical arm attracting 12 strong orders. Lin Peini, the company’s media relations manager, described how the robotic cat—capable of mimicking feline expressions, movements, and sounds—drew buyers to interact, take photos, and even kiss the machines. Equipped with sensors on the head, chin, and back, the robot cat responds to touch, offering companionship that resonates particularly in aging developed nations.

Magic Atom Robotics saw its humanoid and quadruped robots become instant attractions, with hundreds of companies leaving contact information for collaboration. Notably, several industry leaders signed on-site deals covering industrial manufacturing and electronics, underscoring the zone’s potential to bridge technology and real-world applications.

Navigating Tariff Challenges: Strategies for Global Expansion

While the intelligent robot zone buzzed with optimism, exhibitors acknowledged the shadow of U.S. “reciprocal tariffs.” Ni Hualiang of Aoyi Technology admitted the impact, noting potential price hikes for externally sourced chips and cost from downstream partners exporting to the U.S. The company has devised a two-pronged strategy: expanding sales in Japan, South Korea, and Europe, while negotiating solutions with U.S. partners—emphasizing that the approach extends beyond mere price adjustments.

Elephant Robotics, which derived 70% of its revenue from overseas markets—with a significant U.S. share—faces similar pressures. Lin Peini stated the company is formulating long-term strategies, including stocking products in overseas warehouses for quicker local fulfillment. Aobo (Beijing) Intelligent Technology has taken proactive steps, preparing sufficient inventory at its U.S. subsidiary to sustain sales. Executive Vice President Hong Shuai noted that while local price increases may be inevitable, the company’s products remain competitive, ensuring profit stability.

The Road Ahead: Innovation and Global Ambitions

The Canton Fair’s intelligent robot zone serves as a microcosm of China’s robotic industry growth and its global outreach. Exhibitors like Aoyi, Elephant, and Magic Atom exemplify the sector’s dual focus on technological advancement and market adaptability. With overseas revenue already comprising over 50% for many, the fair reinforces their commitment to global expansion, even amid tariff challenges.

The debut of next-generation dexterous hands, bionic companions, and industrial robots signals a trajectory toward smarter, more intuitive machines. As these innovations find their way into international markets, they not only address practical needs—from elderly care to industrial automation—but also solidify China’s role as a key player in the global intelligent robot landscape.

For overseas buyers, the zone offers a glimpse into the future of robotics—where precision, affordability, and creativity converge. And for exhibitors, the Canton Fair stands as a launchpad, fueling confidence to tackle global markets, adapt to challenges, and drive the next wave of robotic innovation. In this bustling arena, the phrase “intelligent robot” is not just a term but a testament to human ingenuity and the boundless possibilities of technology.
